Karawang, March 9, 2025 – The Tim Bantuan Medis Trisakti (TBMT) conducted a Flood Relief Action in Karawang as a demonstration of solidarity and care for the community affected by the recent disaster. This initiative is aligned with TBMT’s vision and mission as an organization focused on disaster response and medical emergencies, upholding the values of humanity, neutrality, and independence.
The action involved various parties, both from within TBMT and external organizations. Internally, the team consisted of 28 medical students who are TBMT members, 5 doctors, 1 clinical student (alumni of TBMT), and 1 supervising doctor. Externally, several agencies were involved, including the Karawang Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Karawang Health Department, Wanakerta Health Center (Puskesmas), and the administrative staff of Karangligar Village.
The Karawang region, particularly Karangligar Village, has seen a decrease in water levels, although some areas remain flooded. Residents whose homes are now free from flooding have started cleaning, while those still affected continue to take shelter in public facilities such as the village office and mosques. These circumstances were the main motivation for TBMT to organize the flood relief action.
During the action, TBMT provided various forms of assistance, including medical services, free treatment, psychosocial support for children, and the donation of essential goods for the victims. A total of 150 residents received healthcare services, while more than 20 children participated in psychosocial support activities.
TBMT set up two health posts at public facilities being used as shelters for affected residents. Donations were distributed through the Head of Karangligar Village to ensure they reached the community members in need.
During the preparation phase, the team faced several challenges, such as obtaining permits and coordinating with local authorities. However, with support from the university and intensive coordination with BPBD, the Health Department, and Wanakerta Health Center, these challenges were successfully addressed. Additionally, TBMT’s rapid response team was deployed for an on-site assessment of the disaster.
The local community warmly welcomed the initiative, with high enthusiasm as they visited the health posts provided. Through this action, TBMT hopes to alleviate the burden of the victims and offer encouragement to the residents, urging them to stay alert and optimistic during the recovery period.
The local government has expressed its commitment to continue aiding recovery efforts and finding solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future. Analytical steps to investigate the causes of the flood are being taken, involving various stakeholders.
TBMT’s Flood Relief Action exemplifies how care and solidarity can become powerful forces in helping others. It is hoped that this initiative will inspire many to continue sharing and supporting those in need.
