Towards an Internationally Accredited Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Trisakti (FK Usakti), continues its journey toward becoming a leading institution in medical education with international standards. One of its key initiatives is fostering international partnerships with prominent universities, both domestically and globally, to elevate academic and professional standards. A significant milestone in this effort is FK Usakti’s strategic collaboration with Akita University, Japan.

A benchmarking visit took place from November 20–23, 2024, aimed at learning and adopting internationally recognized medical education practices implemented at Akita University. The partnership will include student exchange programs, joint research projects, and community service activities involving faculty and students. The outcomes of this visit are expected to provide valuable insights and references for FK Usakti to refine its curriculum and teaching methods.

Planned Student Exchange Programs

The proposed exchange programs include:

  1. Medical Professional Program Internship: A two-week program for FK Usakti students at Akita University, offering exposure to occupational health standards and practices in Japan.
  2. Observation Program for Akita University Students: A one-month program in Indonesia involving visits to hospitals and public health centers (Puskesmas) in Jakarta to understand FK Usakti’s clinical education approach.

Strengthening Medical Education through Collaboration

During the visit, FK Usakti’s delegation had the opportunity to observe Akita University’s medical education system, particularly its curriculum structure and clinical clerkship, which are among its key strengths. Akita’s emphasis on evidence-based practice and clinical simulation is expected to inspire FK Usakti to adopt innovative methods tailored to global standards while addressing the local context of medical education in Indonesia.

This collaboration also opens avenues to strengthen academic programs and provide broader international exposure for students and faculty, aligning FK Usakti’s educational goals with global best practices.
