Community Service: Utilization of Clean Water in Daily Life

The Indonesian Microbiology Association, DKI Jakarta Branch (“PERMI Jakarta”), organized a Community Service event on the Education of Clean Water Use in Rawamangun Village, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta. This Community Service event was conducted by PERMI Jakarta, involving members from various universities, including the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), FMIPA Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FMIPA UNJ), the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Trisakti (FK USAKTI), and the Faculty of Medicine and Health, Muhammadiyah University Jakarta (FKK UMJ), as well as several other institutions.

In this community service event, Prof. Dr. Yeva Rosana, M.S, Sp.MK(K) served as the chairperson and person in charge, Prof. Dr. Atit Kanti, MSc acted as the advisor, the head of the community service was Dr. Dra. Conny Riana Tjampakasari, MS, DMM, and a representative from Universitas Trisakti, Dr. Jihan Samira, M.Pd.Ked, Sp.MK, acted as the moderator in the public education session at the UNJ Campus B residential area.

Dr. Yenny, Sp.FK, Dean of FK USAKTI, stated that through this event, it is hoped to educate and increase knowledge about the benefits of clean water for health, thereby reducing the incidence of diseases caused by poor water quality. This serves as a foundation for future policies.

This activity is one of PERMI Jakarta’s contributions to improving the quality of life in the utilization of clean water in daily life, emphasizing the importance of water quality and cleanliness for health, with the objectives to:

  1. Measure Water Quality: Conduct water quality examinations in Rawamangun to assess bacterial contamination levels and potential health risks.
  2. Water Cleanliness Education: Educate the public on the importance of maintaining water cleanliness, using safe water, and the adverse effects of contaminated water.

There are two main activities in this Community Service event:

  1. Water Sampling Activities: Collecting water samples from various sources, including groundwater and PAM, to test for E. coli contamination. This will be conducted on June 12-14, 2024, in RW.01, RW.03, RW.05, RW.09 of the UNJ Campus B residential area, Rawamangun Village, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta.
  2. Public Education Session: Conducting a public education session in the UNJ Campus B residential area to celebrate Jakarta’s anniversary on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the R. Sidang 6th Floor, FMIPA UNJ.

It is hoped that this Community Service on the Education of Clean Water Use in Rawamangun Village, Pulogadung District, East Jakarta, will provide insights into the water quality in Rawamangun and educate the community on the importance of maintaining water cleanliness.
